Pine Rivers suburb ranks high in list of theft hotspots

Kallangur has ranked seventh in a list of Brisbane’s top theft hotspots for 2016, according to the latest insurance figures.

Last year, 782 insurance claims were recorded, up from 758 the previous year, according to RACQ figures alone, with Forest Lake topping the list with 15 break-ins while Kallangur had nine.

RACQ Insurance spokeswoman Anna Jeffries said many of the robberies could have been avoided if owners simply locked up.

“Unfortunately we see too many householders are making it easy for thieves to enter their home by leaving doors and windows open or unlocked,” she said.

Mrs Jeffries said the most common items stolen from homes included jewellery, computers and personal items.
